Spring is finally here! Or is that summer? These 80 degree temperatures (and supposedly 90 today) have me convinced that we are just skipping spring and heading straight to summer. It’s probably not true though. I’m sure there will be one more unexpected frost just to make me freak out about my garden 🙂 But with all this nice weather things are starting to turn green! Or you can see that they will… soon. The grass seed I planted two weeks ago is just starting to grow. Seriously, it is almost invisible right now, but if you are obsessively watching for it (like I am) you can see it. Tiny green buds are starting to appear on my trees and bushes, even the ones I thought I’d killed. It is a very exciting time.
I also just thinned my kale and broccoli seedlings! They were growing up and so it was time to choose the best looking and trim the rest. I always feel sad when I have to get rid of seedlings that were doing so well, it’s just that they can’t all grow in the same pot and they won’t transplant well at that size. But this time I saved all my clippings and added them to a salad. Homegrown microgreens! Personally I’d rather they grew into big yummy plants, but if I have to thin them at least I’m not wasting them. And now I can say that I’ve already eaten food from my garden!
