I wish I was as good at gardening as Ryan is at building the framework for me. So far I’ve only managed to harvest some lettuce and snow peas. It’s a good thing there are grocery stores because I’m not even close to growing enough food to feed the two of us. But hey, it’s my first year and I’m learning. Also the bunnies and groundhog have had something to do with that (eating my sunflowers, peas and lettuce.) Hence the new kitties I shared last week. Maybe next year they can help me with the pests 🙂
This week Ryan built me some lovely trellises for my squash and cucumbers. This way they can grow off the ground, which will hopefully keep them from rotting and I can also use the space beneath them to grow lettuce. It sounds like a win win. Now I just need to get it all to grow! They were pretty easy to make, just a frame of 2x2s and some chicken wire. I can’t wait to see them covered in green. I think I say that a lot, but it’s still true 🙂 If you look close in this picture you can see lettuce growing in the farthest bed (with the trellises) and a little under the closer trellis (that is what the bunny ate.) Also you can see some catnip and cat grass. Gotta reward the kitties for protecting the garden.
