Tomato Trellis

In an earlier garden post I shared about the new tomato frame Ryan built me.  It sounded like a good idea, but it wasn’t one I’d ever tried for tomatoes.  Normally I used tomato cages.  And my tomatoes would get all cramped and heavy and fall over a little, or just bend the tomato cages.  So this year we decided to try the tomato frame and twine them up some string.  I have to say now that this is by far the best method for growing tomatoes I’ve ever used!  It’s easy to see the tomatoes and to thin them out so they don’t get too dense (which leads to mold) and its so easy to just wrap the twine around them when they grow.  Easy-peasy.  And they look so happy!  Because of how we built the A-frame I’ve got the tomatoes running down the middle of the planter bed and then I filled in around it with peppers and basil.  Yum!  If you love growing tomatoes and cages aren’t working for you I’d suggest you try this!
Btw… that A-frame is about as tall as I am.  So those tomatoes are pretty big 🙂
