Last week I attended Amanda Veronee’s 2-Day Floral Workshop. No, I don’t have any dreams of being a florist! I just wanted to learn about what goes into wedding flowers and what florists struggle with. I was also hoping I’d pick up a few tips at arranging flowers so that when I want to I can make a bouquet for my table that actually looks pretty, but I didn’t expect to come out of this an expert or anything.
We spent day 1 at Amanda’s studio getting to know each other and making boutonnieres, bouquets, flower crowns and centerpieces. The florists in the group shared tips on making flowers last longer as they were putting everything together. Most of that went over my head, because even though I know a lot of my flowers I don’t know them all, and I know nothing about processing them and making them keep well! I loved watching how everyones’ pieces came out looking different even though we were all using the same supplies! It is definitely an art form and these ladies were all fabulous at it! I totally had to scrap my bouquet and start all over again after it came out not so good. :-p On the plus side the second time round I did much better! (Thank you Amanda for your patience & guidance!)
Day 2 was spent at Stevenson Ridge which is a fabulous wedding venue! I’d love to photograph a wedding there! We spent all morning building the most fabulous ceremony arch ever! I would love to see more of these at weddings! They are just stunning! That was followed by a styled shoot (with Dear Sweetheart Events, Paisley & Jade, Fat Girl Cakes, Hello Darling Beauty & Melissa Arlena Photography) and then we sat down and talked about any questions we had on running a floral business. I have to say that it was killing me that I wan’t the photographer on this photo shoot! I was dying to get out my camera and spend an hour photographing everything! But I was there to learn florals and I didn’t want to get in Melissa’s way so I put my camera down. 🙂 You’ll have to wait until I share her photos to see how it all came out. But I did pick up my camera a few times during the workshop to grab some behind the scenes photos of us all at work, and one or two quick photos of the finished product.
So many pretty things laying around!
Making flower crowns. I think I could wear them every week!
My bouquet and centerpiece! I’m so proud of them!
Working on the arch! It took a TON of flowers.
OMG I love all these details! Flowers for days! I’d love to do another styled shoot with buckets full of flowers! So much pretty!
Florists are amazing! Not only are they incredibly artistic (with a medium that changes overnight!) they have to know all about each kind of flower and how to get it to do what they want. How to keep it from wilting, or opening, or how to make it open, and which ones work well in a bouquet and which ones don’t. They know so much! So next time you meet with a florist listen to them! They will help you choose the right flowers for your vision (and it may not be the ones you expected!)
Here are the fabulous ladies that I attended the workshop with! Go check out their sites!
Hope @ (I don’t think she has her own business yet, but keep an eye out for her! She is amazing with flowers!)
