Last week I took a trip down to Richmond to do an Intro to Copperplate Calligraphy taught by Jen of If So Inklined. It was so much fun, but wow is it hard! I’ve always looked at calligraphy and thought it was just pretty cursive. Turns out it isn’t. The letters are formed differently, even when they look the same. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of similarities, but if you just try to write pretty cursive it won’t look right at all! You also have to use the old fashioned ink well! But when it is done right it is so beautiful! Totally worth learning. Just don’t expect to learn it fast! (So if you want to learn it to address all your wedding invites or something I’d say start learning before you even get engaged. Because it’s gonna take a while!)
If you are getting married and would love to customize your invitations or any paper products I would totally suggest contacting Jen and including some of her calligraphy! It is beautiful! And I especially love when her calligraphy gets turned into a letterpress invitation. They are simply the most elegant and beautiful invitations ever!
